Production Analyst

COMPANY

Mercury Paper is a tissue converting company with affiliated plant and warehouses in Virginia. Since 2010, Mercury has steadily grown in the away from home (AFH), retail private label (PL) and retail branded (FIORA) sales channels.

DEPARTMENT

The Production Department is responsible for turning raw materials into finished goods through a series of efficient processes and procedures. The department consists of various levels of machine operators, and technical specialists who run the machines for optimal output and forklift operators, who move the raw materials to the machines and move the finished goods to the warehouse.

JOB PURPORSE

The purpose of the Production Analyst is to support manufacturing goals and metrics for tissue converting productivity, cost, and quality. The position provides analysis of cost, waste and production metrics to all levels of plant management, production, maintenance and engineering teams. The position also identifies improvement opportunities for plant teams to drive improvement in manufacturing output, overall efficiency and cost effectiveness. As a plant member, lead cost reduction, waste reduction and manufacturing improvement initiatives at the facility and work closely with internal manufacturing teams.

KEY ROLES

  • Provide the Plant Manager and manufacturing teams with production data analysis and reports in achieving manufacturing goals.
  • Facilitate process improvement projects in manufacturing.
  • Assist plant manager with other projects as requested.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily process down time reports, efficiency reports and reconcile with shift leads when there is a discrepancy, distribute the reports to internal functions and HQ when required.
  • Perform raw material consumption for each production order and reconcile with inventory control coordinator and PPIC should there be a discrepancy.
  • Analyze production data (i.e. variable cost, efficiency, waste ratio, etc.), identify trends, gaps and root cause analysis, provide summary findings, alert appropriate departments on findings.
  • Ability to use PDCA (Plan Do Check Act), A3 Problem Solving or other Problem Solving Tools for root cause analysis and track the improvement action plans.
  • Facilitate and manage process improvement projects, such as Skill Development Activity (SDA), Small Group Activities (SGA), Just Do It (JDI), other improvement projects from initiation, registration, implementation, progress reporting, benefit tracking and cross sharing.
  • Assist Plant Manager in setting up KPIs goals and tracking KPIs achievement under manufacturing organizations.
  • Assist Plant Manager in preparing Budget and facilitate in identifying key action plans with internal function heads.
  • Prepare Business Review presentations.
  • Facilitate MBOS (Management By Olympic System) implementation in manufacturing such as, Index Competitions, 6S, Cross Sharing Cross Learning, Benchmarking, others as identified by HQ MBOS.
  • Prepare Ad hoc reports and answer data requests as required.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

  • Works with Plant Manager and all levels of production management/supervision, Plant Logistics, PPIC, Inventory Control, Cost Accountant, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Engineers as appropriate.

External

  • Not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education & Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Engineering or Operations Management is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical role and in manufacturing is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in process improvement is preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Must be advanced or Mastery skill level in Microsoft Excel with ability to use array formulas, pivot tables, and advanced functions and modeling within Excel.
  • Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Working knowledge in SAP, including accurate data entry and analysis
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Able to multi tasks and prioritize
  • Able to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines
  • Extremely detail oriented and accurate, including accurate data entry a must
  • Must have the ability to work under minimal supervision, be self-driven, and provide guidance/feedback to operators
  • Capable of building effective relationships and successfully partnering with internal customers
  • Excellent oral, written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be flexible and receptive to ad-hoc assignments.
  • Operate office equipment: phone, copier, printer, scan, and projector.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills including organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Type 40+ wpm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, email, phones/cell, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There is sitting and repetitive hand, finger and wrist use. Must have ability to safely lift 20 lbs.
