Transportation Planner

To oversee and manage that the products are shipped from origin to our internal and external customers in the timeliest and most cost efficient methods.
 

1. Department


Transportation planner is part of the Logistics Department. Within Logistics, Transportation and shipment management is a huge part of the USA Tissue Business Unit (TBU).


2. Key Roles


This position is a key support role to our customer service and sales departments. This position is the internal go-to for questions or issues concerning all outbound freight. Additionally this position provides key information/reports to a number of internal and external customers.


3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dispatch and oversee the shipments in the most efficient and economical method of delivering products to customers or warehouse. When special shipments and instructions are given, expected to monitor carriers and truckers to ensure complete delivery.
  • Responsible for informing relevant Solaris personnel, Shipping team and Customer Service of the shipment status.
  • Foster relationship with freight carrier to ensure timely and damage-free delivery, identify service continuous improvement, backhaul opportunity, and execute committed capacity program
  • Manage and update shipment status and delivery data in SAP
  • When special shipments and instructions are given, expected to monitor carriers and truckers to ensure complete delivery
  • Verify that off-site/customer warehouse have received inventory, as expected, in correct quantity and good condition.
  • Process claim to the trucking company if any damage or discrepancy
  • Verify the Bill of Lading and the invoice included if any other charges
  • Review and process the yearly trucking contract rates
  • Track the delivery from origin to destination and ensure that all preparations are made according to the requirement. On time delivery as per schedule
  • Verify the deductions and chargebacks from customers /vendors against shipment information

4. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Internal

  • SHIPPER : liase and align corporate supply chain srategy and implementation
  • Solaris Sales ,Customer Service and PPIC: ensure on-time, damage-free deliveries with best cost option, resolve delivery issues
  • Solaris Accounting : provide timely delivery information for accurate and timely invoicing

External

  • Customers : ensure on-time, damage-free deliveries with best cost option Transportation, warehouse, and 3PL vendors : negotiate and manage contracts and rates, terms and conditions of service, scorecards, and expectations

 

5. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience Background:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in logistics management, supply chain, or business management is preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in transportation , retail, distributed service, or trucking industry and in inventory management would be highly preferred.

6. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be dependable and on-time
  • SAP knowledge preferred
  • Basic Knowledge of Transportation
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Must work well within time framework
  • Structures tasks and prioritizes work assignments to meet deadlines and accomplish departmental goals.
  • Detail oriented; and quality focused
  • Familiarity with Excel and other Microsoft office programs
  • Strong background in negotiating contracts.
  • Brings industry leading skills in domestic and international shipping and freight terms.
  • Ability to drive business results by saving cost in the logistics and transportation activities of the entire field operation.
  • Communicate effectively, establishes positive working relationships
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing. Strong analytical skills

7. Work Environment


This job is in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, email, phones/cell, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There is sitting and repetitive hand, finger and wrist use.
The position may be required on occasion to travel by car and airline to offices across the US.
